I provide neurodivergent-affirming therapy to autistic and other neurodivergent adults. I understand that you might feel like you’ve never “fit in” with other people because of the way you process information and view the world. I provide a space where you can info-dump, rant, go on tangents, and be your unmasked self. You do not need to have your thoughts already planned and perfectly articulated before our sessions. I will ask the questions to help you connect the dots with your thoughts. Through our work together, you will gain a deeper understand and acceptance of yourself.
What is neurodivergent-affirming therapy?
Neurodivergent-affirming therapy is rooted in the understanding that you might have differences in processing style, the way you see the world, and how you think about yourself and others. This type of therapy affirms these differences and gives you space to process things at a rate that feels safe for you. Together, we will collaborate to help you develop awareness of your needs and create systems of support so you can heal.
How do you support autistic clients?
Therapy with autistic clients begins with a period of education, in which we talk about what autism means for you. We will explore how to use sensory supports and other accommodations to relieve stress and move toward your goals. We will also learn how you can integrate periods of rest into your busy schedule to reduce the impacts of meltdowns and burnout.
Do you work with late-diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or questioning clients?
Absolutely. I work with anyone who might be thinking about whether or not they are autistic, who have been recently diagnosed, who were diagnosed earlier in life, or who are self-diagnosed based on things that they’ve heard from other people and their own research. My role as therapist is to support you based on your individual needs, and that can happen whether or not you have a diagnosis.
I also understand if you were diagnosed in adulthood, you might carry a specific sense of trauma and grief that comes with realizing you didn’t have necessary supports earlier in life. You don’t have to carry that pain forever. I can help you process your grief so you can focus your energy on grounding in your life today.
