I provide letters of support for clients seeking gender-affirming care including gender-affirming surgery (GAS), hormone-replacement therapy (HRT) or other gender-affirming medical care. Prior to the assessment session, I will send you paperwork to complete with information about your goals, background, and other relevant information. During the session, I will collaborate with you to write a letter based on WPATH standards. You’ll receive the finished letter within 24 hours of the appointment ending.
I am also available for additional short- and long-term therapeutic support around gender affirming care.
FAQ
What can I expect in a GAC Letter session?
First, I will send you a questionnaire to gather background information. During the session, I’ll review information provided in the questionnaire and ask you additional questions about your gender experience. This will help me understand your relationship to your gender and your readiness for surgery.
I will begin writing the letter in session with you and will provide an edited, complete version within 24-hours of our appointment. You are welcome to request any revisions to your letter. You can share your letter with your surgeon, other relevant medical providers, and insurance company.
Can I use my insurance plan for a GAC Letter session?
Yes, you can use your insurance coverage for these sessions. I’m in-network with BCBS PPO and Choice, Optum/United Healthcare, Aetna, and Cigna plans. Please look through my insurance page for more information.
Some insurance companies have specific requirements for letters of support, such as level of the letter-writer’s education. Please take time to verify these requirements with your insurance company prior to our session.
Do I need to have a surgery date scheduled before meeting with you for a GAC letter evaluation?
You can schedule your session for a GAC Letter prior to having a surgery date scheduled. In fact, many people choose to meet with me for an evaluation and letter-writing appointment before scheduling their surgery so they have one less thing to prepare for once surgery is scheduled. Additionally, some surgeons won’t schedule a date for surgery until the letter is on file to avoid potential delays with insurance authorization. Having a letter written early in the process gives time to make edits that may be requested from insurance companies and ensures you have everything you need to move forward smoothly.
Do we need to have an established therapeutic relationship before you write my letter?
While I do write letter for established clients, we do not need to have an established therapeutic relationship for me to write you a letter of support. We can complete the evaluation process in one session and then I will send you a copy of the letter.
